"Help me get out of debt know". These are the same very words that I ask a local debt consolidation company in my area over 10 years ago. Eliminating your debt should not be about having someone else doing the dirty work. What are you going to learn by hiring a company and paying them to get you out of debt? And the worst case scenario is that they fail to live up to your expectations and you never get out of debt.
You are the one who brought on the debt. You should be the one that gets yourself out. All you need to do is to learn how to do it and to develop the money management skills needed to stay out of debt.
1) Develop a budget that will allow you to pay the most important bills. That means the housing (mortgage or rent), transportation (car note and insurance), utilities and the basic necessities (groceries). You need a place to live, a car to go to work in, electric for your home and you need to eat to live.
2) Use the remaining of your money to save $1000 for an emergency fund. You should deposit this money into a savings account and do not touch it unless an unexpected expense arises. For example your car breaks down and you need to get it repaired.
3) Once you have $1000 saved, start paying off your credit cards from the smallest balance to the larger balance. It may take you a few months to pay off each card, but they will get paid off quickly and you will save yourself from paying those high interest rates in the future.
4) With your credit card debt gone, you can now turn your attention to your car notes and your mortgage. These are higher balanced bills so it may take you years to pay them down. Any extra money you can throw at these will save you interest and cut down the total amount of time that the bank owns your home and cars.
Any way that you can help yourself get out of debt now is anything worth trying.
